Would more money solve the problems?
More money always helps, but simply expanding services in the way they are currently provided is likely to perpetuate many of the challenges we are trying to resolve. It would also be financially unsustainable. We know that new models of care are needed which are proactive, preventative and built around the needs of local people, rather than local institutions. The only way in which we can make our NHS sustainable is to improve the way services are delivered, 2with more care outside hospital, a more joined up approach and much more support to help people live healthier lives and keep well.
We are talking about spending the money that we have differently in order to deliver better, more sustainable services that meet the needs of local people.
