What about children’s services?
The improvements we are making to services outside hospital will mean that children will not need to go to hospital as often. It will be easier for children and young people and their parents to get the help they need from their GP or another service in their community. There is a nationwide shortage of specialist paediatricians and we know that most children who are unwell do not need hospital care.
If children do need hospital support, this will be provided in specialist short-stay units linked to A&E. The small number of children who need an extended hospital stay will get to see specialists more quickly.
